ZAMBOANGA CITY, March 31, 2022 – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 9 announced the various winners of the Regional 2022 Kabuhayan Awards that generated entries across Zamboanga Peninsula.

DOLE 9 Regional Director Atty. Roy L. Buenafe said that the goal of the annual search was to showcase the best practices and achievements of outstanding DOLE-assisted livelihood projects both for the individual and group categories in terms of business sustainability.

“For this year’s search, we are giving away awards for various categories, not only to beneficiaries but also to regional and provincial implementers and partners who have showcased excellent performance in the implementation of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program and Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers Program,” Atty. Buenafe added.

The following projects were chosen by the Regional Project Management Team (RPMT) headed by Assistant RD Imelda F. Gatinao as the winners of the Major Awards:

  • Best DOLE-Assisted Livelihood Project – Individual Category: Mr. Juancho N. Mirasol, Carpentry Starter Kit Beneficiary from Isabela City, Basilan Province
  • Best DOLE-Assisted Livelihood Project – Group Category: Piñan Women Livelihood Bread, Cake and Pastries Association, Bakery Enhancement Project from Piñan, Zamboanga del Norte

In the Implementers Category, Mr. Michael Vincent B. Macrohon, LEO III/Livelihood Focal of Zamboanga del Sur Field Office won Best Performing Livelihood Focal Person while Ms. Edyll Grace P. Poligrates, Senior LEO/TUPAD Focal of Zamboanga Sibugay Field Office won Best Performing TUPAD Focal Person.

Recognition was also given to the Local Government Unit of Piñan, Zamboanga del Norte headed by Municipal Mayor Cecilia Jalosjos-Carreon with PESO Manager Frederick C. Ajecia as Best LGU Implementing DILP.

Adding to the roster is Ipil Market Vendors Multi-purpose Cooperative (IMAVEMCO) of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay awarded as Best Accredited Co-Partner Implementing DILP in Region 9.

The panel of judges included Chief Labor and Employment Officer (LEO) /TSSD Engr. Wesley D. Tan, Budget Officer Kristoffer Aldor D. Gobaton, Regional Livelihood Focal Franklin T. Rivera and Regional TUPAD Focal Annie Rose S. Pajulas who conducted a comprehensive review of the entries and chose the winners based on potential for significant growth and sustainability and contribution to employment generation.

“The winners of the regional search will automatically be DOLE 9’s entries to the much awaited National Kabuhayan Awards where we will be competing with other regions.

Many thanks to the workforce behind DOLE 9’s DILEEP for their continuous efforts in leaving a mark in the lives of beneficiaries and partners as front liners of the flagship programs and services of DOLE,” ARD Gatinao expressed.

In 2021, DOLE 9 bagged a major win in the National stint with Mohammad Ali “Rap” Sangkula’s baking and pastry project in Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay securing the National Award for Best Individual Livelihood Project (Champion) and Ms. Jacqueline Enriquez, Senior LEO, winning the National Award for Best Regional Livelihood Focal.

DOLE 9 was also commended for its back to back win as Best Performing Region in TUPAD Implementation and Sustainable Livelihood Framework Implementation.
