ZAMBOANGA CITY — Following the success of the Dia de Amor TNK Job Fair initiated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 9, the City Government of Zamboanga through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and in coordination with DOLE Zamboanga City Field Office organized another job fair on February 24, 2021 at KCC Mall de Zamboanga, Governor Camins, this City.
The one-day job fair is in line with the commemoration of Zamboanga City’s 84th Charter Anniversary.
Regional Director Atty. Roy L. Buenafe said that the job fair is a great opportunity for Zamboanguenos who lost their jobs as businesses were closing down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We would like to give our job seekers hope in that they will be able to rise above these challenges. And the government is their partner in securing a better future for their family,” Dir. Buenafe added.
A total of 14 local employers participated in the job fair and offered 2,395 vacancies. Majority of the jobs offered were for retail services, manufacturing and some for construction and telecommunication services.
The job fair registered 1,932 applicants wherein 612 were assessed as qualified. Out of this number, 173 job seekers were Hired-on-the-Spot (HOTS).
Job seekers started to queue at the registration area as early as 7:00 am. The organizers ensured that health protocols were properly observed. A “No Mask/Face Shield, No Entry” policy was strictly enforced, as well as social distancing, body temperature check and accomplishment of the health checklist.
Jobs Fair is one of the DOLE’s employment facilitation strategies aimed to fast-track the meeting of jobseekers and employers/overseas recruitment agencies in one venue at a specific date to reduce cost, time and effort particularly on the part of the applicants. END
