ZAMBOANGA CITY — Young workers in Zamboanga City will now be given a chance to demonstrate their skills and talent in the field of public service as the Department of Labor and Employment Region IX (DOLE 9) has now started to implement the Government Internship Program (GIP) for the 4th quarter.

DOLE 9 Regional Director Atty. Roy L. Buenafe said that the GIP aims to provide opportunities and engage young workers to serve general public in government agencies/entities projects and programs at the national and local level.

“We want to attract the best and the brightest who wish to further their career in the government service. And what better way to train these young minds than to immerse them in the real world of work,” Dir. Buenafe added.

In partnership with the Office of Congressman Cesar L. Jimenez, Jr., 1st District Representative of Zamboanga City, DOLE 9 conducted an online orientation with 42 interns via Zoom Teleconference on October 6, 2020.  Ms. Sylvia C. Santos, Labor and Employment Officer oriented the hired interns on the program objectives, processes and expected results in the form of a monthly accomplishment report.

The interns shall be deployed to various government offices in Zamboanga City for a period of 3 months starting from October to December 2020 with a daily wage of Php 316.00 which is the minimum wage rate for Region 9. Aside from wages, each intern is covered with GSIS Accident Insurance for 1 year.

Part of their task will be to assist DOLE in the implementation of its programs and services.

“I feel very privileged to be hired as one of the interns under GIP amidst the stiff competition. I see this internship as an opportunity to grow, develop my skills and expand my network. Thank you, DOLE, for this chance,” Lorenzo Toledo Jr., an intern, said in an interview. /END
