ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Zamboanga Sibugay Province has set a program orientation session with 22 Barangay Employment Service Office (BESO) representatives of Diplahan Municipality on March 18, 2022.

DOLE Regional Director Atty. Roy L. Buenafe, in a statement, said that the orientation was crucial since it seeks to inform BESOs of their duties, responsibilities and educates them on DOLE’s programs and services.

“The BESO shall serve as the little PESO of these 22 barangays. Their core services revolve around labor market information, job referral and placement, employment coaching and career counseling,” Atty. Buenafe added.

According to DOLE Provincial Chief Elamsalih E. Ungad, the BESO reps were also oriented on anti-illegal recruitment, anti child labor campaign and Republic Act 10361 or Kasambahay Law.

“Since most of the unfortunate incidents of child labor and illegal recruitment target ordinary citizens in barangays, it is important that these are addressed in the grassroots level,” said Chief Ungad.

The support of the BESOs to DOLE’s programs and services will make the PESO an even more effective vehicle in performing their jobs as the little DOLE in their respective LGUs.

Present during the orientation were Diplahan Mayor Atty. Eric Palma and PESO Manager Jay Farrah Ampaso. END (With reports from DOLE Sibugay)
