ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration IX (OWWA9) recently rendered airport assistance to an overseas Filipino worker (OFW).
The OFW is identified as Leilanie Bulandres, a worker from Saudi Arabia.
Bulandres left for Riyadh, KSA in 2012 in hopes of a brighter future for her family. Unfortunately, she had a bad experience and ended up having no communication with her family for the past six years which contributed to her psychological distress.
OWWA9 reports that psychological distress is a general term used to describe unpleasant feelings or emotions that impact an individual’s level of functioning. Traumatic experiences, maladaptive response to stressful situations, and major life transitions or sudden unexpected events are some of its major causes.
Bulandres’ family sought assistance from OWWA Central Office where she was closely monitored and given medical services and assistance.
Eventually, she was scheduled on a flight going to Zamboanga City and was accompanied by OWWA Repatriation and Assistance Division (RAD) Officers Ms. Maribel Carisusa and Mr. Julian R. Vasquez, Jr.
Upon her arrival at the Zamboanga International Airport, OWWA 9 Staff Ms. Rosellie A. Florida, OWWO IV and Mr. Khalil Isser S. Lorena, FWO assisted and escorted her to her hometown at the Municipality of RT Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay where she was united with her family.
