ZAMBOANGA CITY, June 14, 2022- In line with the observance of the World Day Against Child Labor (WDACL), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 9 hosted a mural painting and traditional poster making contest on June 11-12, 2022.

“We are one with the International Labor Organization in advocating against the proliferation of child labor in the Philippines. The activities aim to raise awareness about the situation of child laborers and to show solidarity with the global movement against child labor,” said Atty. Roy L. Buenafe, DOLE 9 Regional Director.

For this year’s competition a total of 7 junior and senior high school students competed against each other in the poster making contest while 6 youth groups participated in the mural painting competition with the theme “Karapatan at Kalagayan ng Batang Manggagawa: Sagipin, Tugunan, at Protektahan ng Bayan”

The contest was open to youth groups/organizations (mural painting) and junior/senior high school students (poster making) residing in Zamboanga Peninsula. Poster making participants were given 2.5 hours to create their masterpieces while mural painters enjoyed no time limit to complete their work.

Winners were announced during the culminating activity for the WDACL Celebration at Level 4 Function Hall, KCC Mall de Zamboanga on June 12 and they are as follows:

Mural Painting Contest Winners:

  • 1st Place: The Wonder Artes
  • 2nd Place: Wambitech
  • 3rd Place: Luna

Traditional Poster Making Contest Winners:

  • 1st Place: Amer B. Bantuas, Grade 11-Ayala NHS
  • 2nd Place: Renz O. Rafaela, Grade 12-Ayala NHS
  • 3rd Place: Maria Franchezka Luna, Grade 12-Culianan NHS

Determining the winners of both contests were National Artist Rameer Amilasan Tawasil, National DEPED Illustrator Gilbert B. Zamora and Presidential Staff Officer of the National Youth Commision Jonas B. Delgado. END
